The Children's Hour

The Children's Hour Oil on PVC 36 X 24

This is a large painting I am reworking. The light source is a problem and I need to darken some of the shadows. But I want to keep the painting light and airy. I think the composition is basically good although the background, especially on the left side, needs some work. Let me know what you think.

Can you tell me more about the PVC panel you are using? Doesn't it have bumps and groves? How do you prepare it?

LindieLee,
Thanks for the comment. White PVC panels come in 4 X 8 foot sheets and are 1 mm up to about 5 mm thick. I prime them with a sherman williams primer which bonds the oil paint to the pvc panel. I've been painting on pvc panels instead of canvas for about nine years now and it works great. It's cheaper to buy, easier to work with and will last a thousand years or more. Thanks again for checking out my blog.

Thanks for the reply. I have another question if you don't mind.

How do you mount these pannels? Do you have frame the work just like a canvas board?

Yes, I frame them just like you would canvas board. I also put one or two layers of foam core board behind the PVC panel to add support and make it level with the back of the frame. Then I write the name of the painting on the back of the foam core board and sign and date it also.

Thanks for the comment.
