Koi

Jan Vavra is the other artist who works in James Butler Studios. Here is a watercolor she finished a few days ago. This is the third iteration of the watercolor "Koi." There is also an oil version.

I think it is quite significant that we cannot see the subject's face. Portrays a feel of mystery and of a deeper connection to nature.

Despite his precarious perch on the rock, he is quite comfortable in his surroundings. He connects wholly with the water, and its many occupants. In fact he is one with nature. He has a real passion for the creatures that he encounters on these visits to the water. This watercolor is reminiscent of my favorite childhood experiences, often consumed in my surroundings of rocks and water.
